SERGEANT MAJOR OF THE ARMY POSITION AND DUTIES

1. The position of Sergeant Major of the Army was established effective 4 July 1966.

2. The Sergeant Major of the Army will serve as the senior enlisted assistant and adviser to the Chief of Staff.

3. Effective 1 September 1970, the tenure of office of the Sergeant Major of the Army will be two years.
